As a journalist and editor, Lydia is an experienced speaker and lecturer in the disability space, covering spaces online and in person. This has ranged from lectures on how to freelance and how to get into investigative journalism, to the actualisation of accessibility in employment and being a part of a spoken, ‘human’ library and the accompying related panel. She has worked with a range of institutions including Naidex, AccessAble, The Crown Estate, SIC, Malady Magazine at the Science Gallery, #StudentOppsFest by SPA in the first lockdown, talks for Empoword Journalism, the Publishing For Everyone conference, Bath SPA University, Roar News, Suffolk University, Lava Elastic, and others.
In 2024, she curated the Beyond Awareness panel for the International Women’s Podcast Festival; as the chair for this videoed talk for the Global Voices section, she was in charge of finding guests, briefing, as well as asking questions for the video, which was live-streamed at the October 2024 in person event.
For the last three years she has been a speaker at Naidex, the UK’s biggest annual disability specific conference. A large scale event that takes place in Birmingham’s NEC arena each March, the conference offers a range of activities – including seminars, adaptive dance and sports classes, stalls, keynote addresses, and more low key ‘talks’ and live demonstrations. In 2024, she spent 30 minutes speaking on how to go freelance when you are disabled – and the accessibility of self employment in the disability space.
From late 2021 – April 2025, Lydia served as an ambassador for AccessAble, the UK’s biggest provider of accessibility information in the disability space.
As part of the team, she has provided consultation feedback for clients, presented on camera for organisations such as The Crown Estate and NHS trusts, created DEI training material, spoken in front of audiences such as at Suffolk university, worked at various events and venues as a mobile journalist on camera, and more.
